Annulment Attorneys in Phoenix, AZ
Strategic Legal Assistance with Annulments in Tempe & Maricopa County
Learning that your marriage is likely invalid brings a unique wave of emotional turmoil. Unlike a divorce, which ends a valid legal union, an annulment establishes that the marriage never legally existed in the first place. This distinction offers a necessary path to restore an individual’s legal status and wipe the slate clean. We understand the sensitive nature of these cases and can offer the guidance you need to pursue this specific legal remedy.
Our solutions-driven team at BDB Law can help you seek and secure the annulment you need to move forward. We can meet with you virtually to assess circumstances, explain your options, and walk you through the legal process.
Several lawyers on our team have been distinguished by Best Lawyers®. Our founding attorney, William D. Bishop, has been rated AV Preeminent® 4.8 by Martindale-Hubbell® and recognized by Super Lawyers as one of the Top 50 attorneys in Arizona from 2019 to 2026. He is also a Certified Family Law Specialist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. These credentials are held by only a small fraction of family law practitioners in the state. With over 80 years of combined experience, our family law attorneys know the local statutes and can advocate for your interests with confidence and diligence. We offer several representation options, including full-service representation, limited-scope representation, and pay-as-you-go consultation services.
Waiting too long to pursue this remedy can weaken or complicate your case, so don’t wait to call (602) 878-3133 or contact us online to schedule an initial consultation with our annulment lawyers in Phoenix, AZ.
What Are the Requirements for Annulment in Arizona?
To obtain an annulment, you must demonstrate specific legal grounds showing that the marriage was invalid at the time of the ceremony. Because the courts generally presume a marriage is valid, having a well-documented case is essential to overturning that presumption.
First, you or your spouse must meet the state's residency criteria. Arizona law requires that at least one of the parties must have been a resident of Arizona (or stationed in Arizona as a member of the armed forces) for at least 90 days prior to filing the petition. Then, to qualify for an annulment, your marriage must fall into one of two categories: void or voidable.
